Masks for Book Week

Our dressing up focus this year is mask making.  Lots of the staff enjoyed making masks over the weekend.  Here are some ideas to inspire you...

If you have some spare clothes, you could even decorate them with your favourite book week character!

Books for Keeps

We have been very fortunate to receive a generous donation of books from Bristol Grammar School.  These are books that have been read and enjoyed but the children have grown out of them so their families have very kindly shared them with us.

On the last day of term,  we gave out these books to all children in the school. As you can see, everyone was very excited with their new books.

We hope you enjoy reading them for years to come.

Holiday Challenge!

Image result for children's books in alphabetical order

Welcome to the inaugural library holiday challenge.

Your task is to put things in your home into alphabetical order (this could be by title or author).  It could be books, DVDs, computer games, magazines, football cards or anything else you can think of.  Once you have sorted them alphabetically, take a picture or write them down in a list.  All children who bring a list/picture to Mr Town by Friday 28th April will feature on the Reading and Library blog.

For example:

Clough, Margaret
Dale, Jay
Giles, Jenny,
Magee, Wes
Randell, Beverley

Good luck!  Mr Town

Book week 2017

Thank you to everyone who was involved in another successful Book Week, especially our friends at Foyles.  Here are Year 6 having a look at what is on offer.

Particular thanks also go to our Cabot Choir (led by Miss Heppner and Mr Town) for their beautiful performance of the song 'I love reading'  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ouL4ZMEdIs

A new activity this year was making story boxes with Year 2.  Everyone enjoyed making some of our Cabot Classics come to life. Thank you to all the family members who were able to come and help.  We hope you are enjoying playing with your storyboxes at home.

Book week events at Foyles - Saturday 4th March

Our very good friends at Foyles are running two special sessions this Saturday.  They are both free but you have to book in advance by email.

Saturday 11th March 2017 2pm - 3pm Cabot Circus, Bristol Literary Event, Children's Event, Free Event
We will be bringing the Under The Love Umbrella story to life by showing children how to create their own paper umbrellas at this arts and crafts workshop.
Under the Love Umbrella is a beautiful new picture-book by Davina Bell and Allison Colpoys, the duo behind the award-winning The Underwater Fancy-Dress Parade. It's a gorgeous, heartfelt book about the transformative power of family love in all its forms.
There will be a story time followed by colouring and crafts. Children will be shown how to design and create paper love umbrellas, and once made, they can choose to take them home or hang them in our children’s section instore!
By pre-booking your place at this craft workshop, your child will be entered into a draw to WIN a free signed copy of Under the Love Umbrella.
The umbrella designs are so simple to create that this is perfect for little ones aged 3-6 years!

Saturday 4th March 2017 3pm - 4pm Cabot Circus, Bristol Children's Event, Free Event
As part of our World Book Day celebrations this year, we’ve teamed up with local Bristol hospital charity, Above & Beyond to host an interactive storytelling and creative writing afternoon.
Above & Beyond has launched a very special children’s anthology, Don’t Be Scared to raise funds for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. With the support of over thirty authors and illustrators, the new book is dedicated to all the children and families cared for in hospital.

In this fun-filled session we will be reading extracts from Don’t Be Scared and encouraging children to write their own stories and poems based around the theme of ‘being brave’.

This event is ideally suited for children aged 8-12yrs.
